Fuel cells provide electrical power for spacecraft (as in the NASA space shuttles) and also show promise as power sources for automobiles. Hydrogen and carbon monoxide have been investigated for use in fuel cells, so their solubilities in molten salts are of interest. Their solubilities in a molten NaNO₃/KNO₃ mixture were examined (E. Desimoni and P.G. Zambonin, J. Chem. Soc. Faraday Trans. 1, 2014 (1973)) with the following results:
