Assess critically the effectiveness of a process of delegation. Arrange to interview a manager and sub- ordinate staff in a hospitality organisation of your choice. Give details of the nature of delegation involved and the circumstances under which it arose. (i) Note the extent to which the five main stages in a planned and systematic approach appear to be followed. (ii) Explain in particular: the nature of the briefing, guidance and training given, and the time limits. check points and performance standards established. (iii) Enquire of

(a) the manager and

(b) the member(s) of staff concerned, the benefits each gained from the delegation, and any difficulties or problems involved. (iv) Explain ways in which you believe the process of delegation appears to be successful or not. Where appropriate suggest ways in which the process of delegation could be made more effective. (v) Where possible, compare and contrast your findings with your own experiences of delegation.
