Escalation of commitment to a failing course of action has been widely researched, and it is easy to think of many examples of this kind of mistake. The flip side of this mistake, however, is giving up too soon, which has not been studied as much and for which it is more difficult to think of examples. Why can’t we recall such events? How might researchers in this area be victims of availability bias?
