Interview a manager or supervisor about any of the seven elements of their organization’s structure as shown in Table 15.1 (work specialization, hierarchy, span of control, etc). Do any of these prevent them from doing their job as they would like or force them to do it in a way that they do not like? Ask them what changes they would make; what aspect of their organization’s structure would they change in order to improve it? Who would benefit from these changes?
