It is important to mention that it is advisable to take the number of time steps to be a (small) multiple of the number of space steps, typically NT = 4NX. In this regard, spatial amplification of errors can occur when NX is much greater than NT

(see Campbell and Yin (2007) for a detailed discussion). Numerical experimentation in addition to a theoretical analysis is needed in order to discover the optimal parameters for a given problem.
