Discuss an alternate solution that could be employed to resolve the issue.

1. quality is integral to any successful company that would like to be competitive in their market. the cost of quality can diminish the profit of any company; poor quality can take a company to bankruptcy or remove products or services from the market. we the customers understand that quality come with a price, they would like to not spend much and get the best quality possible. i work in a company with a positive change in quality in the last three years. we manufacture medical and dental components using cnc machines, if the product does not meet the specification we have to sort(separate bade from good), rework or remake. when we look at this process sort, rework and remake we see cost, cost and cost because of the additional none planned resources that we need to be able to get the product in spec or remake more parts. these none desire process was costing the company from $10,000 to $90,000 per month depending on the non conformace product generated per month. these are additional cost we were incurring and were affecting our bottom line. we reduce these expenses by 95% by implementing a process call” quality at the sources” we provide additional training, checks lists and tools to the operator to check product as the come of the machine. this allow the operator to be a gate keeper for quality escapes at the sources, the process allow the operator to identifies the problem and make changes on the equipment to get the product back in spec. the most interesting thing was that by just making some systematic changes we shifted waste into profit, and that is huge on operation management. on our reading and video material this week that the perspective of quality is different from person to person and we can generalize that quality is: the ability of a product or service to meet customer needs. where i work we are we are implementing more concepts of lean manufacturing and some of the systems we are going over this weeks are part of having a more lean operation. the systems we are working the implement are jit and six sigma metrics. jit allow us to reduce the batch size cutting the cost of quality because is damage cost is directly relates to inventory, jit allow us to minimize the risk of high cost of quality. one statement that i like reading on the book was: “inventory hides bad quality, whereas jit immediately exposes bad quality” i completely agree with. the other system we are recently working on implementing is six sigma, next semester i will be taking this class, but i do know the statistical approach that six sigma uses i’m looking forward to go more in depth next semester.

2. quality to me is a product that meets my needs and desires for what i spend. i usually buy what i need when i need it. i don’t mind paying a premium price if i get it when i want it. some people will wait until big sales or a holiday to upgrade a half working tv. i will shop three stores or sites and make a decision when i need to replace something. i run my reasoning past my wife and we wait 24-48 hours and then purchase if we have no doubts. quality to an organization is either good or bad to me. surveys and polls may say a company is getting better or worst.

what matters is the first impressions a company gives with a product. chipotles to me was a c average restaurant before their recent problems. i thought the quality of their meat was substandard when i ate there. i read chipotles used smaller farms to keep sustainable image and quality products in their restaurants. when the outbreak came out i thought it was bound to happen. “chipotles close after e. coli infections national daily press-apr 25, 2016seattle — chipotle has temporarily closed dozens of its restaurants in washington and oregon out of an abundance of caution after an e. “ so now when someone gets sick and they have eaten at a chipotle’s they assume it’s from the restaurant. i read that the company had hit bottom and was ready to make a comeback. i think that may have changed now. i won’t eat there again and i’m sure there are plenty others that won’t either. chipotle’s has revamped their restaurants, retrained employees, and taken out ads everywhere to explain they are getting better. i don’t see chipotle’s getting anywhere close to past performance in the next 3 years.
