Electrical current of 34000 amp flows along a flat steel plate 1.25 cm thick and 10 cm wide. The temperature of one surface is 80°C and of the other is 95°C. Find the temperature distribution across the plate, and the value and position of the maximum temperature. Also calculate the total amount of heat generated per metre length of the plate and the heat flux through each surface of the plate. Neglect side effects. Assume ohmic heating is uniform and the resistivity of the steel, p = 12 x I 0 -6 ohm cm and the thermal conductivity, k 54 W/mK.
