Read the case study “Henry Schein Case: Doing Well by Doing Good?”

The critical issues that you are to discuss are how outside hiring can be assimilated into the corporate culture of henry schein as well as eventually replace current management falling in line with the current corporate values of henry schein.

Critical issues this is an identification of the 3 4 major strategic issues facing the company that are essential to address for the organization's future. It is based in large part on the situation analysis as presented in the required appendices (see below). A justification for the choices is a critical part of the presentation. The issues should be specific and carefully stated. (i.e. "marketing" is not an adequate issue definition.) How issues are defined is important to the persuasiveness of the rest of the argument. Strategic objectives and alternatives this is traditionally the weakest part of the analyses submitted. For each of the issues identified as critical in the previous section, this part of the presentation explicitly identifies objectives to be sought and a set of strategic alternatives for dealing with the issue. While no guideline on the number of alternatives may be given, a minimum of three is generally needed. It then examines the relative strengths and weaknesses of each of the alternatives in addressing the issue. The option of continuing current strategy should be included in the alternatives.

The examination requires looking at the various strategy levels: corporate (when appropriate), business, and functional. Again, justification for alternatives, criteria for choices and the evaluation of the alternatives are critical. Strategic choices for each of the issues, a choice of strategy must be made and defended based upon the objectives and evaluation of the alternatives in step 3. Often, part of that justification of choice is financial in nature. Steps 3 and 4 are at the heart of the task. Action plan and implementation the specific steps, resources and timing to carry out the proposal of step 3 should be detailed. This should include such items as a quarterly plan, proposed budget, and indication of impacts of the effort on organizational systems. If alternative means are available for putting the proposal into place, these should be detailed and the choices made defended.
