Think about where you might go to keep up-to-date on local and national news. Is it through a major print newspaper? A local online website Do you read national or local magazines that focus on sports, entertainment, or local culture?

Pick one print magazine “Rolling Stone”, one newspaper USA Today, and two websites “Gawker.com and Huffington post”. Read at least three stories in each, and then respond to the following questions:

1. What audience do the stories target?

2. Does the author use first, second, or third person?

3. Do the authors make emotional appeals, provide opinions, or stick to the facts?

4. Is each story humorous, straightforward, or serious?

5. Do they provide quote from experts, victims, bystanders, or all of the above?
