1- (50 pts) Sugar is to be extracted from wet sliced sugar beet in a multiple contact counter current extractor by using as solvent ( 6kg water / kg of water free beet). The wet beets are to be treated at the rate of 30kg/second and have the following composition in mass fraction: water =0.4, sugar =0.15, pulp =0.45. The final extract solution contains no pulp and 60% of the sugar in the beets must be dissolved. The slurry phase leaving the extractor contain 1kg solution per kg of solids (pulp + undissolved sugar). Finally, this slurry is dried to 0.1kg water / kg pulp in a drier. - Draw process - Calculate amount of final dried pulp product - Calculate amount of water removed in the drier - Calculate amount of extract phase - Calculate amount of water used in extraction - Calculate amount of slurry phase
