1. A new study came out that claims people who regularly use tanning beds may double or even triple their risk of developing Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. The study found that people who have ever tanned indoors have a higher risk of Melanoma on average, than people who have never tried indoor tanning. The new study, a survey based in Minnesota, included nearly 1,200 melanoma patients and 1,200 cancer-free group of participants. The researchers asked the participants a series of questions, including whether they had ever tanned indoors before, how many sessions, lengths, and so on. Then they compared the results between the two groups (groups with and without Melanoma).

Question: Based on this study alone, can we establish a causality between tanning bed use and skin cancer? Please explain.

2. Suppose you are in charge of a research project that aims to better understand college students perceptions of their own "employability," which refers to whether or not one possesses the skills and abilities to find a good job. In other words, do college students nearing graduation feel they are job-ready? Do they feel they have enough skills and ability to find jobs easily prior to graduation?

Question: What type of research (primary data) would you employ to answer these research questions? An experiment, survey, focus group/interviews, etc.? What are relative advantages of your chosen method? Please provide a convincing argument as to why your method is the best. You could suggest a combination of 2 or more methods, but it is not necessary, as long as your proposed method (just one) is sufficient.
