1. A QC laboratory has been testing the carvacrol concentration of dried oregano leaves using Gas chromatography (GC). The dried oregano herb produced 5.12% oregano oil using steam distillation. Carvacrol was the main compound in the oregano oil. A carvacrol / internal standard (tetradecane) mixture containing 50ppm(mg/L) of both analyte and internal standard gives peak areas of 112076 and 135009 respectively using GC. 50mg of the oregano oil was dissolved in 500mL hexane. Under the same conditions oregano hexane extract, spiked with 50ppm of internal standard (tetradecane), was analysed, and this gave peak areas of 132113 for analyte and 128356 for internal standard respectively. Showing the calculations, (including units, if applicable): 1. Calculate the response factor (proportionality constant), K 2. Calculate the ppm concentration of carvacrol in the hexane extract. 3. Calculate \%carvacrol in dried oregano leaves
