1. Ace Pharmaceutical has developed a drug that it believes will help lower cholesterol and blood pressure at a significantly greater rate than fish oil. Researchers wish to test the new drug and compare the results to those of fish oil and of a placebo. A total of 300 volunteers suffering from hypertension and high cholesterol will participate in the study. A. Explain how you would carry out this test in a completely randomized experiment. (12 points) To start the experiment I would test the Chlolestrol and blood pressure of all the participants: Then all participants would be assigned a number. Then through the use of a random number generator all the participants would be assighed into one of 3 groups ( fish oil, new drug, and placebo). Afterwards the participants would be given the treatment that correlates with their group. There is no way to clistinguish between the treatments, so the participants don't know which treatment they recieved In addition , the data collectors / surveys will also be unaware of which groups were assigned which treatments in order to prevent bias from occuring. After taking the treatment the particpants are periodically surveyed and tested for cholesterol and blood pressure. once again the researchers collecting this data are unaware of the groups . The data is then used to understand the effects of the treatments
