1). Airbnb, Uber, and Bird Scooters (25 points) Cheap room, ride, and last mile transit: what's not to

love?

(Ignore the temporary changes or issues to these companies since March, 2020. Focus on these companies

and their effects pre-Covid 19)

If you're not familiar, Airbnb is the largest company that connects people wanting to rent out a private

room with those wishing a night's lodging. Uber is the largest ride service company in the US. And lastly,

Bird, is a dockless electric scooter company that have become common in many large cities. They tend to

be used for "last mile" transit (faster than walking) or by tourists.

Pick one of the 3 1). Airbnb or 2). Uber and Lyft, or 3). Bird and the different dockless electric scooter

companies and markets. (this means you do not need to analyze all 3, just the one you choose!)

a). Discuss what is market efficient and productive about these new companies entering their respective

markets? Did anybody face losses as these new companies entered the market? Was it okay in

microeconomic terms that there were losers?

b). Discuss any market failures or concerns about these new, innovative companies changing aspects of

the rental, ride hiring, or last mile transit markets?
