RIE C) Discuss the preventive measures that could be implemented by the service to prevent a similar complaint recurring. Case Study 2 Sala has been attending a playgroup with her son Fili who is 3 years old. She asks to speak to you and appears distressed. Sala explains that she has been trying to toilet train Fili. The doctor has told her that Fili should be dry by now and that his 'accidents' are simply 'attention seeking'. Sala reports that Fili doesn't seem to be making any effort to go to the toilet. Sala explains that the other day Fili wet himself as well as the sofa and she lost control. Sala states that she screamed at him, whacked him hard and shoved him screaming into the bathroom where she locked the door and left him inside alone. Sala tells you that she didn't let him out until when she had calmed down after about 30 minutes. Sala reports that she discovered large welts on the back of Fili's legs and the beginning of bruises on his arms. She states that she is afraid that she is going out of her mind. Page 18 of 29
