A portion of the process (reactor, heat exchanger, and gas-liquid separator) used to make acetic anhydride is shown in figure P1.1. Acetic acid ketene acetic anhydride The objective of this problem is to generate a capital cost estimate (must use CapCost EXCEL software) for the portion of the acetic anhydride process shown in figure P1.1. The stream table shown in Table P1.1 below gives all of the mass and volumetric flowrates and conditions needed to prepare the cost estimate. Absolutely no process simulation in Aspen is needed for this problem. The unit operations for which I am asking vou to prepare a capital cost are the CSTR-tvpe reactor (R-101), the cooler (heat exchanger) after the reactor (E-101), and the liquid- vapor separator (V-101). Note that. the reactor has a cooling lacket around it to cool the exothermic reaction, as indicated in the figure. The required residence time in the reactor is 0.8 hours, and the reactor volume is 200 occupied by catalyst. The required area of the heat exchanger is 200m3. You will find necessary information for developing a capital cost estimate for these three components in the course textbook, lecture 8 on cost engineering, and by using the GapGost, EXCEL, file provided on Blackboard. Be sure to account for increased operating pressures and material compatibility issues in your cost estimate. A recent CEPCI value is 825 . Include in your answer the print out of the CapCost cost summary table, as well as a written explanation of how you determined the pertinent parameters to enter into CapCost from the information provided here in the problem statement.
