1. Consider the following requirements specifica;on for a FICTION_AWARD database in
which authors submit fic;onal works for considera;on. Reviews by judges are recorded
for use in determining who wins prizes and awards. The database system caters
primarily to the judges, who record their answers to evalua;on ques;ons for each work
they review and make recommenda;ons of whether the work should get the award or
not. The data requirements are as follows:
Authors are iden;fied by their e-mail ID. Legal first and last names are also
recorded. In addi;on, there should be a way to store any aliases (pseudonyms)
the author has.
A work may have mul;ple authors, but only one of them is the contact author.
Each work of fic;on is assigned a unique iden;fier within the database and is
described by its ;tle, sub;tle (if any), and the file name containing the work.
Judges are also iden;fied by e-mail addresses. For each judge, their first name,
last name, phone number, affilia;on, and genres of interest are recorded.
Each work is assigned between 2 and 4 judges. A judge rates a paper assigned to
them based on a scale of 1 to 10 in four categories: technical merit, readability,
crea;vity, and ;meliness of topic. Finally, each judge provides an overall
recommenda;on for each paper.
Each judge produces a review for the work which contains two parts: one to be
seen only by the judges, and one for the author as feedback.
Design an en;ty-rela;onship diagram for the FICTION_AWARD database. Ensure you use
consistent nota;on and indicate all relevant constraints in the diagram.
2. Consider the ER-diagram below. Assume that a chef may or may not have a specialty, but
that a specialty by defini;on is a famous dish that is served in some meal. A meal may
not have more than three special;es. Chefs make 2-4 meals a day.
Supply (min, max) constraints on this diagram. State clearly any addi;onal
assump;ons.
