Problem: Inefficient communication between different teams is causing delays and errors in project completion.

2. Why is this a problem in an Op-Ex frame?

This is a problem in an Op-Ex (Operational Excellence) frame because it is affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of the project completion process. It is impacting the ability to deliver the desired quality, within the specified time frame, and at the desired cost.

3. What do you hope to achieve?

The aim is to improve communication and collaboration between the different teams involved in the project. This will result in the reduction of delays, errors, and rework, leading to improved project completion time, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

4. What part of Op-Ex will help solve the problem?

The Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) approach of Op-Ex will help solve the problem. This methodology will assist in defining the problem, identifying its root causes, measuring the impact, analyzing data to identify opportunities for improvement, implementing and testing solutions, and controlling the changes to ensure that the benefits are sustained. The team can work collaboratively to apply DMAIC principles to solve the problem and achieve the desired improvements

• While the episode can either represent success or consist of a negative experience, I recommend choosing the best opportunity to learn. In the first half of the document, describe the episode in terms of the facts and events, the actors involved, your role, and the context it occurred in. Disguise the company and names where appropriate and, if you feel like it, tell us about how the situation ended.
• It is perfectly OK and sometimes even more fun to use one scenario that is still ongoing. Revisit the episode through relevant concepts from the lenses this class offers. The best way is to ask, what problems are going on here? Is it capacity, demand, quality, information, or supplier management? Work Systems management? Write out the situation and context, the dynamics, the emotions, and the stress. Remember this could be a positive or negative experience.
• Then go to one of our Lean Six Sigma Tool textbooks and find that content on DMAIC Kaizen, and any other tools you might think useful. Please answer the following:
  1. What specific concepts/theories relate to the episode you described?
  2. How does the course material allow you to interpret the episode?
  3. Is your explanation new or different from before the course?
• Please focus on at least two different concepts to ensure you're grappling with the complexities of the scenario. This point on different concepts is to synthesize multiple learning opportunities. How do you Define the problem? What data Measurements do you have?
• In the end, you can have specific questions such as What should I do? How should I lead this team? How should I resolve this conflict? How should I negotiate? Or you can leave it up to the exercise to bring out the right questions.
