In this paper, I would like you to explore how you have seen race, class, gender, and/or sexual orientation operating in the world. This might include how race, class, gender, and/or sexual orientation is portrayed in the media (including social media); how race, class, gender, and/or sexual orientation explicitly or more subtly come up in conversations with friends, family, or co-workers; how race, class, gender, and/or sexual orientation are discussed/used in politics; or what identities (race, class, gender, sexual orientation) are represented in the highest positions of power, to name a few examples. What do your observations tell you about the importance of studying race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities (such as immigration status or dis/ability) and how they work in the world? What do your observations tell you about inequality and stratification? Finally, how might we apply an accountability strategy, as Russo outlines in her book Feminist Accountability, in our own lives to work toward a more compassionate, just, equitable, and empathetic world?
