1. I was hoping you could help me get tips and tricks that will enhance the proposed teaching method or offer a challenge that might be faced when trying to implement the strategy and a suggestion for how to overcome it. Use the text or an outside source to support your thinking
A time that I benefited from Wentzel's proposed strategies was when I was nervous about a public speaking class in my early college courses. I didn't know anyone in the class, and the idea of having to speak publicly and then be graded on it made me not want to be there at all. So, I initiated interaction. I was sitting next to a girl around my age and I just started talking to her. I introduced myself and asked her about herself and how she felt about the class. We bonded over nervousness and ended up going to dinner together after the class. I found out we had a lot in common, and we developed a good friendship. That friendship helped me get through my twenties, and to this day, I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and initiated conversation.
Friendships are a vital part of growing up. They can have both positive and negative effects on someone. Adolescents who don't have many friends may feel lonely, like an outcast, or even rejected. According to the text, some children became isolated when covid was running rampant, and the schools went to virtual learning. "The adolescents experienced an increase in depressive and anxious symptoms during the lockdown" (Santrock, 2019). Rejection can also lead to other problems. According to the text, rejected aggressive boys are more impulsive and have problems sustaining attention. As a result, they are more likely to be disruptive in and outside of the classroom. Knowing this, parents and teachers must keep the lines of communication open and offer help when needed.
A parent/teacher can teach one of these strategies by setting a good example. Being nice and showing respect for yourself and others is a great strategy. Children learn a lot by observing the people they are around. Being nice and respectful goes a long way. Even just communicating about possessing these qualities can be helpful.
