In fact, higher unemployment, lower household assets, and certain demographic characteristics also lead to a lack of access to adequate, nutritious food. In the United States, in 2015 around 43.1 million people (13.5 percent) were in poverty ( this is significantly less than 25% considered hungry). On the other hand, in the same year 42.2 million Americans lived in food insecure households, including 29.1 million adults and 13.1 million children. Having said this, we can determine that indeed the percentage of poor and food insecurity are very similar, but even more importantly, they do not surpass or are close to the 25% proposed by the question.
