1. Notice the difference between the mean and median in the video (and perhaps your own data sets). If these are both "measures of central tendency," why is the difference so dramatic?

2. Choose a measure of central tendency and discuss why it wouldorwould not be an effective "statistical summary" for agiven data set. Note: There are examples when each would be effective and when it is not as effective. Provide an example of a data set and justify your calculation. You can either create your own data set(very few points required) or use onefrom the internet (no source needed).

Using thedata previously in the activity, separate the collected data into two groups any way you like.

Compare the two groups by creating histograms for both and stacked (or side by side) box plots. Make any observations and conclusions you can with regard to the distribution and what you know from the displays.

In the previous Activity, you were asked to choose one of the variables represented in these statistics and collect the data for all the countries listed.

In this activity, you will collect the entire data set for another one of the variables so that you can fit a line of best fit for the two variables.

Justify which variable you chose tobe the independent variable and which you chose to be the dependent variable.

1. Create a scatter plot with a line of best fit.
2. Interpret the slope and y-intercept as in the examples from this activity.
3. Interpret the correlation coefficient as in the examples from this activity.
4. Make any overall conclusions from the data.

• cause and effect
• common cause
• accidental cause

Pickoneof these and state two variables that would have this type of correlation. Justify why you believe this to be true and share with your classmates
