Part A) Explain the relationship between magnetism and current. How are magnets and electric charges similar? How are they different? What is something new you learned about electricity and magnetism?
Part B) When electricity started to become widespread in the United States, there were two main philosophies of thought as to the most efficient method of bringing electricity into people's homes. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were on opposite sides of this intellectual battle. (You may be familiar with the 2017 movie The Current War, or perhaps the 2006 movie The Prestige.) Why were these two scientists not able to agree whether direct or alternating current was the best for American homes? What arguments and/or demonstrations did they use to prove their points of view? What do we currently use in America, and do you believe this was the best way to bring electricity into people's homes? Explain why or why not.
