Police Blotter, November 2, 2005 Crimes reported by the Sheridan Police Department, City of Sheridan, Colorado

On October 22, at about 6:00 pm a male subject came to the Sheridan Fire Department requesting help. He told fire personnel that a subject pointed a gun at him. Fire personnel immediately summonsed police officers to assist. The man stated that he lives in Denver and while looking at his camping trailer in front of his residence, a subject stopped in front of his house and asked him what he was looking at. The man did not have time to reply before the subject pulled a gun, chambered a round, and pointed it at him. The victim told the suspect "You don't point a gun at people". The suspect got back in his vehicle when a female in the car began to yell at him, to get back in the car. The victim gave a detailed description of the car and the officers called the Denver Police Department to assist in the reporting of the incident. A short time later the Denver Police called to advise that a Denver Police Officer was following the vehicle near Quincy and Irving. Sheridan Police responded and assisted with the arrest that took place a short time later on Irving, at the Englewood City border. During contact with the car, a loaded .45 Caliber handgun was recovered and five suspects were detained by the Denver Police to complete the investigation. The driver was eventually arrested and charged with the crime.

On October 20, Sheridan police officers were called to the 3800 block of S. Lowell Blvd .on a reported burglary in progress. When officers arrived they found no one at the vacant residence. They did find that someone had broken off the doorknob to the rear door but was unable to gain entry. The house has been boarded up for some time. During the police investigation, the officers were able to reach the witnesses that called in the complaint. During interviews, they identified the suspect who had attempted entry. The case was referred to the detective division. Detectives are attempting to obtain arrest warrants for the suspect.

On October 26, Sheridan police officers received information that a wanted subject was possibly living in the 3300 Block of S. Dale Court. Officers took the information and conducted surveillance of the area in an attempt to locate the suspect in question. During the investigation, the suspect was identified and was found to be in the area. During preparation for the arrest, additional information was developed indicating that methamphetamine was in the residence under surveillance. South Metro Drug Task Force Agents were called to assist in the investigation. After several hours of investigation and additional surveillance, two wanted suspects were arrested on warrants for escape and fugitive of justice as well as drug charges. While attempting to take the parties into custody, one of the suspects resisted arrest, ran on foot, and after a foot chase was taken into custody. During the subsequent execution of a search warrant of the residence in question, several guns were recovered including a sawed-off shotgun and several ounces of methamphetamine. South Metro Drug Task Force Agents are following up the case with Detectives from the Sheridan Police Department. Charges will be filed with the 18th Judicial District Attorneys' office.

In the early morning hours of October 26, Sheridan Police officers were called to the 3500 block of S. Platte River Drive on a reported burglary of a business. When officers arrived they learned that when employees arrived for work at the business they found that someone had broken out the glass to one of the main doors and entered the business. The suspects went through the business but took only collector sports items in one of the offices. The case was forwarded to the detective division for further follow-up investigation with pawn shops and other police agencies to check for similar crimes.

On October 26, Sheridan police officers patrolling the area of the Sheridan High School observed three female subjects fighting in front of the high school. Officers were able to contact the subjects and found that all three of the subjects were from Kennedy High School. Officers determined that they were at Sheridan High for a fall basketball league event. The three became upset with each other over a boy and a fight broke out. The three were contacted, identified, and later released pending further investigation. On October 27, one of the females involved in the fight contacted the School Resource Officer from Kennedy High and wished to press charges for assault. The SRO from Kennedy High contacted the Sheridan Police SRO for the Sheridan Schools. Information concerning the incident was exchanged and the case is being followed up by Sheridan Police. Charges are pending for assault, fighting by agreement, and disturbing the peace.

On October 29, at about 1:10 a.m. Sheridan police officers received a call of shots fired in the area of the 3200 block of S. Bryant Street. When they arrived they contacted numerous witnesses that advised they heard at least six shots fired in the area of their residences. During the investigation, they found one vehicle with the front tire, wheel, and hubcap damaged from a gunshot. A short time later a vehicle was found in the middle of the street. It appeared someone had tried to steal the car out of someone's driveway. The steering column was broken and someone had also shot numerous rounds of ammunition into the car. Witnesses reported that a red Dodge Neon was seen in the area during the time of the shooting. It was reported to have left at a high rate of speed. Earlier in the evening, Denver Police reported a late model red Dodge Neon was stolen out of their jurisdiction. Officers recovered six, 9mm shell casings at the scene of the incident. The case has been referred to the detective division for follow-up investigation.

On October 29, starting at 7:57 am Sheridan Police were called to the area of the 4100 block of S. Irving Street on a reported broken window to a vehicle and the theft of the stereo. While the officers were conducting the investigation they found a second vehicle had been entered by breaking the driver's side window. After completing these reports officers were called to addresses on W. Mountain Road and W. Dill Road on calls of cars being broken into. In all six reports were taken. At this time there are no suspects or leads in these crimes. The Sheridan Police are asking for help from the public in solving these crimes.
