Goal: Your goal is to redesign the school classrooms from ridged rectangular to collaborative circular forms. You must indicate central angles, inscribed angles, and angles formed by tangents in your design.
Role: You have been hired by the Schools Board as a dedicated and creative architect to redesign the schools’ classrooms.
Audience: You will present your designs and budget to the ENS Board, administrative team, and Faculty Maintenance unit.
Situation: The use of technology and electronic learning has changed the way we are thought and learn. The traditional design of the classroom with its rectangular shapes, rows of students focusing on the board in the front of the class must change. The modern classroom environment must be more fluid and dynamic with the focus on smaller collaborating groups in circular floor plans.
Product: You will create a blueprint design of your classroom and provide a budget for all materials needed.
Part 1: Design
- You will need to place the teacher’s desk inside of an inscribed angle. The larger the angle, the larger the teacher's desk can be.
- You will need to create an acute central angle. Student desks will be placed around the outside of that central angle. Make sure that there are at least 20 desks for students. Inside of the central angle, you will need to make a place for supplies in the classroom. This part of your classroom will also need carpet. You will need to find the area of this sector.
- Create a tangent line that intersects with a radius of the circle of your classroom. In the angles that are created by the intersection, place the door to the classroom.
