"When selecting a candidate for a position, within a resume I think we all would agree that job history is looked at first. I would look at this first because that is the first step of knowing at least a little information about the candidate. My first thought is if they have had any jobs that are in correlation with the job I am hiring for just to see if they are coming in with skills that I am looking for. Not saying thats a deal breaker, just a hood thing to know and a plus. I am going to look at the duration of each job but that will not determine rather I hire them or not because I just dont think that determines dependability of a person. I am going to just allow them to explain the reason why they were at the previous job for such a short amount of time. When interviewing, I am going to look for someone being themselves because I like honesty and transparency. People try to impress the interviewer, which as some extent you should do, but dont be someone else and then come to work and youre a totally different person. I am going to look for values before I even look for skills because skill can be taught. Values are pretty much already instilled in an adult. Are you a honest person? Are you ethical? Detail oriented? Family oriented? Do you get along with others? Can you work in a group? These personal attributes are very important in an employee. You could do your job very well but if youre making others miserable at work or is a type of person that likes drama Id rather you not work for me. Id look for the goals a person has, are you just passing through or are you looking for a career? When interviewing I am looking to see if youre stagnant or are you looking to take my job some day and move up in the company."

"It has been over a decade since I've last been on the hiring end of this process, but I certainly remember the most important things I looked for in a candidate. This has certainly helped me when I've been on the other side, attempting to gain employment. First of all, I want to see a candidate that knows how to communicate well. By reading their resume and speaking with the them, I can quickly ascertain their ability to do so in written and oral formats. In the interview, it's important to get the candidate talking, which can best be done by having them relate previous experiences in their life to values the firm looks for. Another trait to look for is confidence. It's perfectly normal for people to be nervous or anxious during an interview, but eye contact and tone of voice are important. I definitely want to hire someone that feels like they are sure of themselves and even if they are a bit scared, I want to see that they are actively working through it. Lastly, I like candidates that are attentive to detail. People who can't stay focused can be a liability in the workplace. From safety to job function, it's important to find people that can keep their eye on the ball."
