1) The Project manager asks the following questions:

a) "Which GIS software package will you be using for this project, if you are hired for this project (Hint: What software have you been introduced to in the basic-level GIS course at your college)?"

b) "What are the key "modules" of this software package?

2) There are some paper copies of the land survey and maps of other important "infrastructure" (i.e., some oil and natural gas pipelines that pass through a portion of her land), that currently generates revenue for the owner. The client expects your team will recreate this information as digital files in a GIS software. As you may recall from your introductory-level GIS course at college, there are two ways to convert paper maps to a digital format resulting in two very different GIS data models.

a) Identify the two methods to develop or capture geospatial data for a GIS, and the corresponding file types generated by the two main data types.

b) Briefly explain at least two differences between scanning vs digitizing

c) Provide one example of each of the main geospatial data types.

3)There are stand-alone MS Excel spreadsheets containing information about different features (both, natural and built) that exist on the client's property and their various attributes. The client would like to see a map generated using these features and their relative locations, so that plans for developing the land can be made in earnest. Is it possible for you to import the stand-alone MS Excel spreadsheets into the GIS and later combine them with pertinent geospatial data of the site? Are there any software-based conditions that must be met, before this can even occur?

4) The project coordinator has heard other environmental professionals on the team often use the term "geodatabase" for storing data, and wants to know the following:

a) What is a geodatabase?

b) Are there any benefits to a geodatabase, and if so, what are they?

5) The client wants to know the different types of digital outputs generated by a GIS you could produce for her company and asks you to list them and provide a brief description of what each output will show.

6) The lawyer says she has come across maps with different scales in her professional career. Once she was given two maps, one at a scale of 1:5,000 and the other at 1:50,000 for another project. Given those examples, she wanted to know which map is an example of a small-scale map? Why?
