1. Think of some software with a user interface that you use fairly often. It can be any type of user interface, for example, stand-alone software (i.e., Microsoft Word), web or cloud-based software (i.e., Google mail), an app (i.e., Google Maps or Angry Birds), enterprise software (i.e., Epic), or any other type of product.
2. Select any three of Nielsen's five criteria and think of how you would rate the usability of your selected product using those criteria. (I've listed the criteria to select from below, but you should have first read about these and Nielsen's definition of usability from the module reading list).
*Learnability
*Efficiency
*Memorability
*Errors
*Satisfaction
3. Think of a fourth criterion of your own that you think relates to the usability of your interface.
4. Write a brief paper that relates each of your four criteria to your selected interface (the three selected from Nielsen's list and your own fourth criterion). Try to be objective - it's really easy to think that using an interface is obvious, particularly when you are familiar with it. But try to put yourself in the place of others and think about using the interface in terms of someone's ability to effectively completing a task.
a. Clearly, state at the beginning what interface you are writing about. Include a link to a product page or other information about it.
b. Include a clear description of the interface components/usage that you are discussing, preferably using images (for example, use a tool such as the Windows Snipping Tool).
c. Use examples and include as much detail as needed to discuss your perspective. I would expect 500-600 words to be a minimum requirement.
d. Use headings to clearly show which criterion is being discussed and format your paper using a clear separation of different topics. Use a reasonable font, spacing, and margins. It is not necessary to include a cover sheet - just put your name and the assignment topic at the top of the first page.
