1. What are the key attributes of the transformational style of leadership? Explain why you think these attributes are required of a transformational leader.
> According to Kouzes & Posner (2008), transformational leaders try to influence followers through a vision of a better future. They inspire followers instead of controlling them and lead by example through role modeling. Some characteristics of transformational leadership style are trusting relationship, shared vision, and empowerment versus control. Others include ability to take the right risks, entertain new ideas and being proactive (Y scouts 2012). Transformational leaders will be attained to maintaining functional communications with emoloyees knowing that gaining and maintaining employee trust is essential for functional effectiveness. They build employee trust through leader characteristics such as sharing a vision, having open two way communications, demonstrating integrity, allowing employees to lead and make decisions, and being brutally honest even when he or she such is not what might be preferred to be heard. Transformational leaders understand that success is dependent on the effort of the entire team, and growth happens in an organization with a culture of openness to new ideas from all levels. The take risks and takr an active role in growing the organization. (Y scouts 2012) All of these are key attributes of becoming an effective leader.
2. From either personal experience or through observation, provide examples of transformation leadership.
> Through personal experience, I believe my manager is an example of a transformational leader. She came on board 2 years ago, and Ive been working with my current employer for almost 8 yrs. My former manager was more of a transactionall and was a total opposite. He had the mentality of keeping things to himself. When there were management meetings and he was absent on that day, our supervisor would sit in for him not knowing what to expect in the meeting. My current manager however is very proactive and had introduced good changes within our department. We now have policies and procedures to follow in writing versus the mentality of how things were communicating verbally. We are now working on the new system to be live next month, because the current one is already outdated. We encourage close communication amd team work between co-workers in our deprtment so we cam meet our deadlines every month. These are examples I believe are fruits of having a transformational leader.
