1) What are the positive aspects of your peer's study?
2) What are your suggestions for improvement?
3) Would you participate in the type of study your peer designed? Why? Why not?
(Study is at the bottom)
1) What topic/area will you study?
I will be focusing on Freud's psychosexual development which is divided into five stages: oral, anal, phallic, latent, and genital. Freud believes that adult personality is determined by the way we resolve conflicts between sources of pleasure at each stage and the demands of reality.
2) What is your hypothesis?
My hypothesis for my study is that unresolved childhood trauma/ab*se can lead to psychological issues within adulthood and overshadowed habits that affect who we are as people and the people around us (i.e. attachment issues, people pleasing, depression, narcissism)
3) Describe your study.
I will be conducting an observational, survey-based study amongst college students, students who are taking a break, and students who have completely withdrew from school.
4) What methods of data collection will you use? Why?
Students will be provided with a questionnaire regarding their demographics, family background (are they a first generation student), and statements ranging from never (1) to most likely (5). Based on their total number, they will branch off into questions about their current standing in school OR current standing in life. From the data collected, I'll be able to identify different aspects that are affecting their position in life, whether it be not being able to afford college due to being a first generation student, or having to please their parents with straight A's in order to receive good judgement. In order to not violate anyone's privacy, I will be putting a disclaimer on the questionnaire, and all responses will remain anonymous.
5) Would you participate in the type of study you designed? Why? Why not?
I would participate in this study because I am currently a student who is working two full time jobs and I know the stresses of needing/wanting to graduate because of your parents can take a toll on your mental health. You are deemed "their only hope," so expectations are extremely high, but also unfair.
