2. There is agreement that achievement goal theory can bring about and can speak to issues of education reform (Maehr & Zusho, 2009). Indeed, with legislation such as the Race to the Top was introducedby President Obama in 2009, the NJ classroom is becoming more and more performance-oriented (performance-approach goal oriented) instead of mastery-oriented. As current teachers or preservice teachers, is there any potential benefit of performance approach goals under a high-stakes testing such as NJSLA?
