(10 points) Heater Meals use a self-heating technology to provide a portable and fast way to heat up food supplies without the need of an external energy HEATER MEALS source. These units use an accelerated oxidation-reduction reaction to generate heat. A common choice uses combines calcium oxide and water to obtain the chemical reaction: CaO + HO-> Ca(OH)2 [+ heat (AH)]. Your engineering team is working with NASA to investigate how this self- heating technology could be used on various missions to make a portable water heater. NASA is interested in a simple device capable of heating water using a collection of the small self-heating trays contained in the Heater Meals. The following facts can be taken as given: a) Change in energy for a system of mass m can be estimated by AU = mcp AT, where Cp is the heat capacity of the system and AT is the change in temperature of the system. b) Density of water is 1 g/cm3, and 1 ml = 1 cm3. c) Some relevant Cp values: Typical food packet = 3.88 J/(g.C), Water = 4.1 J/(g.C). d) The self-heating trays can raise the temperature of a 230 gram food packet by 56*C in 10 minutes. e) The dimensions of the self-heating trays are approximately 5 x 10 x 0.5 cm. NASA would like your best estimate of the amount of time it would take to raise the temperature of 10 liters of water by 35*C using these trays
