Research Question Does reducing the barriers to pre-exposure prophylaxis increase the efficacy of the drug leading to a decrease in HIV rates? Data Analysis A survey and STD panel will be administered upon study consent to record participants' demographics, sexual history/behaviours along with any current safe sex practices and to record a baseline STD status. The participants will be required to attend follow up appointments at 1,3,6 and 12 month intervals where blood samples will be collected to quantify drug serum levels. An STD panel to determine HIV status and sexual history/behaviours/sexual practices will also be recorded during these interval follow-ups. Utilizing pharmacokinetic modeling from prior studies' observations, PrEP lower limits will be quantified at 349 fmol per punch (equating to <2 tablets per week), 350-699 fmol per punch (2-3 tablets per week), 700-1249 fmol per punch (4-6 tablets per week), and 1250 fmol per punch (daily dosing). Daily dosing is associated with being the most protective and most effective at preventing HIV (Grant et al., 2014). It is anticipated that the experimental group receiving subsidized PrEP will have blood dosage levels near the 1250 fmol per punch due to increased access versus the control group. Data will be analyzed via SAS.
