Assume that required time to complete a handoff is 10 seconds once the received signal level reaches to handoff threshold and the required margin value in terms of the difference of received power from BS. to BS is specified as 4= 9 dBm. Note that A= Pro - Primin where Pr.ho is the threshold level used to start switching for handoff initiation and minimum usable signal level for acceptable quality at the base station receiver is Pr,min- Consider that the moving mobile station is observed at distance d from BS2, where handoff is initialized and at the same time, the minimum usable signal level for acceptable quality is observed at BS2 for the given distance D-d from the mobile station.
