Ethics 'case study'

Read the following scenario:

Your roommate, Marie, has been skipping classes for the past three weeks, apparently spending the whole time on her computer.She quit her job, makes excuses when you or her other friends ask her to go out with them, and has started eating snacks in her room instead of coming out for meals. You're afraid she might be gambling or gaming; whatever it is, it seems like it's taking over her life. She's losing weight and not sleeping and she looks terrible. When you asked her about it, she said she was "working on something" and wouldn't talk any more about it. Should you leave her alone, like she seems to want, or try to do something?

Provide an analysis of the scenario in the above case study. You should:

• discuss the relevant ethical issues involved (e.g. rights, obligations, conflicts, etc.)
• describe what the respective theories of both Kant and Mill might say about the situation
• decide what you should or should not do and give reasoned support for your position
