2. Hot water is to be used to leach protein out of seaweed in an isothermal multistage countercurrent system. The seaweed slurry, consisting of 48.1% solids, 2.9% protein and 49% water enters at a rate of 400kg/h. The hot water is fed at a rate of 500kg/hr. It is desired to have the outlet slurry a maximum residual concentration of 0.2% protein on a sold free basis. Experimental data for the operation are given below: a) Calculate the number of stages needed. (5) b) Calculate the amounts of the slurry and extract solutions leaving the process. (LN=291.9kg/h,Vl=415.7kg/h)
