As a company for HCA, I have noticed many things that correlate with flat or vertical organizational structure. For one, we have a well-established chain of command system in place in order to get things done. For example, if one of the floor nurses has an issue with any topic or situation, we would notify our charge nurse on the unit. If that charge nurse cannot resolve the issue on their own, they would have to notify their manager, the unit director of our floor. That unit director will then notify their manager, which would be the CNO of the hospital, and so forth, until eventually reaching the company's CEO if it is serious.
