The ROAM factory was designed specifically to build mass-customized suitcases. Production of an individual order was triggered by a picklist that provided all the information associated with a specific customer order for (one or more) custom suitcases. ROAM purchased shells in large batches and prepared them for production in batches of 24 shells (12 suitcases) by removing the protective film, cleaning them, and then setting them into a fixture for spraying and baking. The curing process was fairly simple: spray primer, bake 20 minutes, cool, spray second coat of primer, bake 60 minutes, cool again.
