2. Seven-year-old Chad is the son of Dan and May, who never married. Shortly after Chad's birth. Dan sought and received judicial recognition that he is Chad's father. Dan has visited Chad regularly throughout Chad's life. Three years ago, May married Steve. A year ago, Steve and May divorced. In the divorce, Steve and May agreed that Steve and Chad had a very strong bond. They agreed to weekly visitation between Chad and Steve. A few months ago, Steve and May had a falling out, and May filed a motion to terminate Steve's visitation with Chad. Dan joined May's request to terminate Steve's visitation. Dan and May concede that Chad refers to both Steve and Dan as "Dad." Steve testifies that he has a quasi-parental relationship with Chad and that continued contact would be beneficial to Chad. The trial court admitted a psychologist's report in which the psychologist stated that Chad desired ongoing visits with Steve and that Steve was a father figure to Chad who enhanced Chad's life Although the psychologist concluded that conflict among the adults and some disruptive behavior by Steve made more extensive visitation inappropriate, the psychologist recommended one weekend visit between Steve and Chad every other month and one seven-day visit during the summer.
