2. To a solution of the azide (617mg,1.43mmol) in methanol/THF (30mL,3:1) at 0C was added nickel dichloride hexahydrate ( 542mg,2.28mmol) followed by sodium borohydride ( 248mg, 6.57mmol ) over 10mins. After 30mins, the black mixture was allowed to warm to 25C, diluted with ethyl acetate ( 40mL ), and filtered through Celite. The solution was further diluted with ethyl acetate (50mL) and washed with brine (225mL) and 0.01MEDTA solution (125mL,pH 7.5, K-phosphate buffer). After solvent removal in vacuo, the resulting oil was purified by silica gel chromatography ( 100% ethyl acetate then ethyl acetate : methanol, 12:1) to give 569mg of the amine. What is the percent yield of this conversion (reaction illustrated below)? Ts = White, R. D.; Wood, J. L. Org. Lent, 2001, 3, 1825 - 1827
