2. You are going to compare stopping distances of a vehicle with and without ABS (Antilock Braking Systems). In an emergency stopping situation vehicles with ABS will slow/stop under conditions of the static coefficient of friction, s, between the tire and the road. Vehicles without ABS will skid the tires with the conditions of the dynamic coefficient of friction, k, between the tire and the road. Experimental data from a modern vehicle was done with and without ABS active. The testing was for a vehicle with a mass of mvehicle, and the starting speed before braking was Vlow_speed_test. The stopping distance with ABS functioning was measured to be LABS, and the stopping distance without ABS was measured to be Lskid. Calculate: Using the data about mass, initial velocity and stopping distances you are going to predict stopping distances of the same vehicle, but starting at a higher speed (Vhigh- speed) before braking. Ultimately you are going to calculate the additional distance (AL = Lskid - LABS) required to stop he vehicle without ABS compared to the vehicle with functioning ABS. Tip: Neglect weight transfer (assume the vehicle acts like a single block with just one normal force) LABS Lskid AL
