2. Zero valent iron has been proposed to remediate a source of trichloroethylene (TCE) contaminated groundwater. The contaminated groundwater plume is moving offsite and will contact a local river soon. A siphon will be generated to draw or pump the groundwater through a packed-bed reactor to breakdown the TCE. A bench scale reactor was designed and acquired the data noted below in the figure. Based on the data given, 1) sketch the apparatus and give details on how you believe the experiment was conducted, and 2) utilizing the data in Figure on the next page, determine the rate law and rate constant of TCE decay or transformation. TCE contaminated groundwater (161 ug/L) was collected from the site and passed across the bench-scale packed-bed reactor at 0.0054 ft/min (a linear velocity). Note, cDCE is dichloroethylene and VC is vinyl chloride. VC is a known carcinogen.
