232 Therapeutic Recreation Leadership and Programming Technique Go Around Whip Memory game Gestalt Props Artifacts Videos and photographs Description TABLE 7.1 Debriefing Techniques Each client contributes a descriptive sentence or word regarding the activity or a portion of the activ- ity. The TRS could ask each member of the group to share an emotion she experienced during the program. Similar to Go Around, but each client completes a sentence stem presented by the TRS. Examples: "One thing we did well today was..."; "I feel good about...." Clients recall the events of the session in chronological order, with each client taking up where the previous client left off. The facilitator indicates when to pass the story off to the next person. The client closes his eyes, recalls an event, and describes it as if he were actually going through the event again. Essentially the client mentally relives the experience. The facilitator questions the client about the experience when appropriate: for example, "What do you see as you stand in front of the group?" Props are used to stimulate discussion, including "talking sticks," playing cards, and other commer- cially produced processing products. Physical items created or related to the experience are used to stimulate discussion. Examples: T-shirts, medals, craft projects, and self-assessments such as the colors personality test. Videos, photos, or audio recordings made during a session are used as a prompt for recollection and discussion of the experience. Reprinted, by permission, from T.
