(25 pts) There is considerable interest in culturing endothelial cells onto polymeric sarfaces to provide a small-diameter vascular graft that resists clotting. The adhesion of cadochelial cells is greatly enhanced if the cells are grown on surfaces that contain fibronectin, a pre-absocbed protein. One approach to absorbing fibronectin (FN) onto the surface is to incubute the graft for a short period of time with the patient's plasma, which contains fibronectin. The other choice is the incubate the graft with a purified solution of fibronectin. In all cascs, the volume of the fluid is sufficiently large that the change in concentration of any single protein is very small. Protein absorption to these surfaces is rapid and can be assumed to be diffusion limited. You have been hired by a company to improve the fibronectin coating process for their new vaseular graft biomaterial. They want you to look at all the features of the process, such as eptimixing cellular adhesion, keeping costs process low, decreasing incubation times, etc. 50 , you go on a fact-finding mission. You leam that your team has been using serum for coating their materials, because the boss says it cheaper and it doesn't matter because serum is just a bunch of "hatural proteins" anyway. Investigating the cost, you find that a 500mL. botlle of serum costs 5500 while a 1mL vial of purified fibronectin (concentration of 200g/mL ) costs $300. Looking into serum, you find that it contains 0.200mg/mL fibronectin, but the dominating protein is albemin ( 50mg/mL ). Endothelial cells do not adhere as well to albumin (ALB), so if
