27. A new study on diet reported by a nutrition group at Ben-Gurion University suggests that low-carb diets outperform low-fat diets in weight loss and lowering cholesterol. A third diet termed the "Mediterranean diet" was also investigated. Participants in this diet had the same overall caloric limits as the other diets but could eat fats, mainly olive oil and nuts, in moderation. They also ate poultry and fish but little red meat. For the study, 322 overweight people, average age 52 and mostly men, were randomly assigned to one of the diets. Of that number, 272 completed the two- year study. Summary data for the diets are presented below. Units are kilograms lost. Diet Low-Fat Mediterranean Low-Carb 90 100 82 X 3.3 5.5 2.1 2.0 2.4 Are there significant differences in the weight losses among the diets? If so which diet was most successful? Use the Tukey test for mean separation, if neces sary
