On July 2, in a telephone conversation, Arlene requested and Sam agreed that the offer would be irrevocable until July 15.

On July 7, Sam received the following letter dated July 5 from Arlene: "I am still very interested in your offer, but would you consider taking $8,000 plus my old used car? (signed) Arlene."

On July 10 at 10:00 A.M, Sam mailed the following letter to Arlene: "I withdraw my offer to sell my boat. (signed) Sam." This letter was received by Arlene on July 15.

On July 14 at 11:00 AM, Arlene sent the following letter by Federal Express overnight to Sam: I accept your offer for the sale of your boat. (signed) Arlene." Due to an error by Federal Express, this letter did not reach Sam's home until July 17.

On July 16, Sam died
