An aquovas acotie acid solution flows at the rate of 1000kgh. The solution
is 1.1 wts acetic acid. It is desired to roduce the eoncentration of this solution to
0.037 wth aestic acid by extraction with 3-boptanal at 298K. For practieal pur-
poses, water and 3-beptanel are imimiseible. The inlet 3-heptanol contains
0.02 wth acetic acid. An extraction column is available which is equivalent to a
eountercurrent caseade of as equilibrium stages. What solvent flow rate is
required? Caleulate the composition of the solvent phase leaving the column. For
this system and range of eoncentrations, equilibrium is given by (Wankat,1988)
wt ratio acetic acid in solvent =0.828 wt ratis acetic acid in water
