3. Bernard Richter is the president of a textile concern with mills in four southeastern states. He is currently in a mill which is the farthest one from his home office. He is travelling on the corporate jet. Since each states mill are under the supervision of the same production officer, a visit to any of them would give a typical picture of the conditions in all the mills in that state. Bernard decides that on the way back to home office he will visit one mill in each state for a surprise inspection. He wants to conserve fuel and intends to fly the absolute minimum number of air miles on this return trip. He gets out the sectional air chart and pencils in this sketch. Using dynamic-programming, help Bernard choose the shortest route which will meet his plan. The numbers on his sketch are in the statute miles.
