3. The Air Quality Index (AQ1) is an indicator of the air quality in a particular location, computed from a combination of standardized measurements. The numerical values fall into ranges that are coded by colors for casy comprehension. The colors are green, yellow, orange, and red, correspond ing to good to very poor air quality, in order. In areas where the atmosphere stagnates, whether by temperature inver- sion or geographic features such as mountains, the air quality can deteriorate rapidly.
