4.3 Final Project
Due Wednesday by 11:59pm
Critical Path (CPM)
Let's continue working on the warehouse construction project. The design is done, the blueprints are ready, the estimate was approved, and the project activities logic sequence was used to develop the bar (Gantt) chart schedule. The project is in full swing!
Instructions
Now, you must develop the warehouse construction project critical path using MS Project. Remember that, in your previous assignment, you already developed the Warehouse Construction Schedule in MS Project so all that remains is to define the critical path.
The final project constitutes an additional phase of the 3.3. Assessment Task "Warehouse Construction Schedule in MS Project," Hence, you must continue working on the same digital file you submitted.
Step A. Open your MS Project file "Warehouse Construction Schedule in MS Project." Make sure you have completed the seven steps indicated in the assignment, which are the basis to continue with this final project.
*Depending on the MS Project version you are working on, some commands could be located differently.
Step B. Using MS Project, go to the "Format" tab, locate the "Bar Styles" menu, and check the "Critical Tasks" box. After this action, the bars should change color.
Step C. Activities in the critical path must be assigned the color red. Other activities should be identified in blue. If you don't know how to change the color, ask in the discussion forum how the color is set up.
Step D. Go to the "Gantt Diagram Assistant" button. This command should be activated in the software; if not, we suggest asking in the discussion forum.
Step E. In the "Gantt Diagram Assistant," select "Critical Path" and then "Resources and Dates." Afterwards, activate the "link lines" and finally, click on the "Format" tab.
Step F. In the label "View," ensure the "Critical Tasks" filter is checked.
Step G. Ensure the last activity of the critical path is linked to the project's beginning. This could be another excellent opportunity to participate in the discussion forum.
Step H. Check that all MS Project fields are correctly completed and that the Critical Path is shown. Save and submit your assignment in an MS Project file (the file extension must be .mpp).
